Saw this on the TV at the gym the other day and was in awe, not really in a good way either. The little girl was crawling around in them at first, but then they were holding her hands and she was walking in them. If you could call it walking, even though the heels of the shoes smoosh down some she looked so uncomfortable and unsteady, more so than your typical learning-to-walk tot. Not so "Heelarious" to me, but maybe I'm a party pooper.
I know the story says they are only for babies, up to 6 mos, but I could see someone taking this too far especially if they start making money. Crawling around in them is one thing. When babies start to pull themselves up and walk I'd think "shoes" like this could impede their ability to learn to walk as well as potentially their gait and who knows what else. I guess I just don't see the need for a baby to wear heels when there are so many adorable shoes out there for little girls.
A stunning tidbit from the creator:
Seriously?!?!? Make an adult version, NOT a baby version and market them as slippers."I wish I had an adult version, for when I'm putting all of my 'Sex and the City' re-runs and I can just sit back on the couch and be in the most comfortable shoes ever," Porter said.
Give a review of 5 of your favorite children's items and let us know why you like them and where you can get them. They can be ones you own(ed) or maybe products you'd like to buy if you were to have another child.
Newborn:
- small Gerber washcloths & burp cloths ... or pretty cloth diapers (Targert/WalMart/BRU): the wash cloths worked great as a pee-pee shield and for burping and several other uses. the burp cloths were bigger and covered more ground so we used those and other waterproof pads to lessen the changing of sheets during the spit-up phase!
- Boppy (Targer/BRU): fabulous for nursing but also great for bottle feeding, tummy time and sitting practice.
- basinette (hand-me-down): we borrowed an old basinette like one my mom used with my little brother and probably all of us kids. great cause I could move it from room to room and he could be where I was if needed.
- Aquarium bathtub, Fisher-Price (Target/BRU, now the Rainforest bathtub): great little sling for when he was teeny-weenie and then a slanted side for when he grew out of that and a flat side for when he could sit up. so sad when he grew out of it.
- Graco Safe-Seat infant seat (Target/BRU/WalMart/Baby Depot @ Burlington Coat Factory): Best carseat ever! Loved that it went to 32" and 30lbs. Stephan was so tall he'd have grown out of any other infant seat long before this one that he was able to use for just over a year! So worth the extra $ and we never needed to buy a convertible carseat!!
Infant/Toddler:
- Healthy Care Booster Seat, Fisher-Price (Target & probably others): use this instead of a larger bulky high-chair. just propped him up with towels till he could do so on his own. portable so we can take it anywhere, restaurants, hair cuts, anywhere we need a seat for the little dude.
- PNP (Target/WalMart/BRU/etc.): great for when we traveled to hotels, at home I use this for time-outs and for a while used it to trap the kid in our "living space" so he didn't get into everything. we just have a borrowed one but will most likely get our own when baby #2 comes since it'd be quite useful and who knows if we'd be able to borrow this one again.
- Baby Einstein DVDs (anywhere): he loves the MacDonald one and we also got Wordsworth: Words Around the House. They are great!! Borrowed several more for out road trip and they worked like a charm. He now asks for "muvie" when he wants to watch one of those or his PraiseBaby's ... or his newest, Elmo.
- CD Player (wherever you want): Stephan loves music and we started playing some tunes with naps and bedtime and he'll turn it on sometimes, if he can get a hold of it that is, and start dancing!
- Snack Trap (BRU): while I was annoyed that you have to buy the cover seperately this was a great way to give Stephan snacks and not have them end up dumped all over the floor. Love this!
We finally sucked it up and went to get Stephan's picture with Santa this year. We had to wait in line for about 30 minutes but aren't complaining too much since it was Saturday morning. Andy walked around with Stephan and there was someone at the Hickory Farms store passing out cheese. Stephan kept going back for more, leading Andy to the store and asking the lady for cheese. We were happy that it's the same Santa from last year. So here are both pics. We got the CD this year so the picture's much better than the scanned one from last year but getting the CD was ridiculously expensive last year.
We love last year's picture because Stephan was tugging on Santa's beard.
There's still over a week to vote for Stephan and I discovered that there is a very simple way to vote every day without having to enter your email address and wait for the confirmation email. Simply save the confirmation email Evenflo sends you and you can click on the link in that email every day to cast your daily vote. Just don't let it get burried in your inbox :)
THANKS to everyone for voting!
Stephan did not win the Evenflo contest last month. I looked online this morning and while I'm a little biased, he's way cuter than the baby who won that finalist position. Thankfully, we also entered him for September, so he has another shot at winning the Evenflo “Baby You’re a Star!” contest. Why are we telling you about this you might ask? Because the winner is chosen from 10 finalists and the 10 finalists are chosen based on online voting. So you can help our little cutie win a $10,000 college scholarship!
Here’s the skinny: I uploaded a picture of Stephan and all you have to do is head to this site between now (October 1st) and October 15th, click on the button that says “Vote for this Photo!” then you enter your email and click “Submit Vote” they will send you an email with a link to confirm your vote, click on the link and your vote will be counted. You have to enter your email because they want to make sure people only vote once a day.
Remember, you can vote once a day so vote as often as you’d like in the next fourteen days! You can also use multiple email addresses if you have several and would like to do so. Also, feel free to pass the word on to others and have them vote too.
Vote early & vote often!
THANKS!!!

I made this blanket for my friend's little girl. She was about 5 months old at the time. I had just gotten a sewing machine for my birthday and this was my first project. Hannah loves this blanket. She still uses it and it's her favorite. She's four now. Apparently it was her security item of choice and she took it everywhere. One of these days I want to make one for her little sister whose about 6 months old now and I'd also like to make a blankie for Stephan. I really need to dust off that sewing machine and get some material.
Just a shameless reminder that you can still vote for Stephan till Saturday, September 15th. We need as many votes as possible for him to make the group of finalists. You can vote once a day and are able to use several emails per day so vote away! Just CLICK HERE to VOTE FOR STEPHAN! If he wins it all he'll get a $10K scholarship for college. Thanks!!

My hubby sent me this link earlier to an article on MSNBC ...
Industry pressure waters down breast-feed ads
Under pressure from infant formula lobby, appointees dilute campaign
I'm not really sure what to think. I wonder why formula companies are even interfering. There's the money of course, but how can they say that the scientific evidence for breastfeeding is complete crap? While I'm not sure a breastfed baby will have a higher IQ, the health benefits are based on pretty solid research. I don't think mothers who can not or have difficulty or chose not to breastfeed should be made to feel guily, but ads encouraging breastfeeding sound like a good idea. Where was the LaLeche League? There's only minimal mention of the breastfeeding advocates in the article and it seems like somehow the formula bigwigs have way more power.
It's also interesting that the original ad campaign was to mimic other grab-your-attention public health/safety ads.
Officials met with dozens of focus groups before concluding that the best way to influence mothers was to delineate in graphic terms the risks of not breast-feeding, an approach in keeping with edgy Ad Council campaigns on smoking, seat belts and drunken driving. For example, an ad portraying a nipple-tipped insulin bottle said, "Babies who aren't breastfed are 40% more likely to suffer Type 1 diabetes."
The article also mentioned that the ads they actually aired did not do anything to increase breastfeeding. What is wrong with us as a country that we don't consider breastfeeding the norm? Why don't all hospitals do whatever possible to support new mothers in nursing their babies? I was lucky to deliver at a hospital that was very supportive of breastfeeding and when having difficulties worked with me and hooked me up with a pump to help get things going. Then when we went home the Kaiser home care nurse was even more helpful and I think that should be the norm. I know it's not going to work for every mom to breastfeed or to do so for baby's entire first year, but for the majority just a little help and support is all it takes to get nursing going well.
went to a rockies game today because we got free tickets from the newspaper. they actually decided to win! and we got to see the team knock out two homers. we didn't make it through the whole thing, but stephan was a trooper. he sat in the seat between andy and i and spent a lot of time soaking it all in. a few months ago on opening day he hated it when everyone cheered and shouted, so we were a little nervous. but this time he clapped and make excited noises along with everyone else. well maybe his excitement was just after everyone else's ended but he's starting to get the idea. we were very glad since we enjoy going to baseball and want stephan to enjoy the games as well. he even enjoyed some of our nachos and cinnamon tornadough (it's like a twisty pretzel). it was a good day at the ballpark!
